SA Global Affairs is a U.S. based online journal dedicated to analyzing the impact of leading headlines on the rest of the world. We also focus on the political and economical evolution of Indian Sub-Continent and provide a contemporary outlook of the region. What makes us different is that our analytical pieces are written by experts who are locally based and provide a perspective rarely published in the U.S. media. Through our database of archives and historical pieces, we hope to impart a critical understanding of the Post-Cold War world to academicians, students, policy makers, and historians of the Cold War. Our publication has been at the forefront of major political and economic events in South Asia for the last three decades, and we strongly feel that a well balanced, multi-disciplinary, academic project is required if one is to affectively understand how the events of the Cold War played out in the Third World, and how they continue to impact us today in a Post 9/11 World. HISTORY SOUTHASIA Magazine, formerly called THIRDWORLD INTERNATIONAL, was established by veteran journalist, Syed Jawaid Iqbal in 1977, during the height of the Cold War. Where the conflict was primarily between the United States and the former Soviet Union, the battles were most often fought in the Third World nation-states such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Angola, Afghanistan, Panama, and Cuba to name a few. THIRDWORLD INTERNATIONAL covered ground-breaking news such as the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Iranian Revolution of 1979, the rise of the mujahideen, the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the assassination of Pakistani President Zia-ul-Haq; and brought to life the evolution and development of the entire world during, and after, the Cold War. As 1997 saw the birth of a new world political system, THIRDWORLD INTERNATIONAL paved the way for SOUTHASIA Magazine. The new entity continued to focus on political and economic development in a post-Cold War world, through an added emphasis on South Asia. This region is home to about one fifth of the world’s population and stands poised for a giant leap in the 21st Century. SA Global Affairs is an independent affiliation of Jayeye Associates which distributes SOUTHASIA Magazine in major cities of the United States. |
